What is job relocation?
Living in a globalised world means that geographical borders increasingly limit less the activities of people and companies. There are professionals who find better opportunities in another country or another city, and companies that either move their facilities to a different geographical location or start new projects in a different place, which means they need to relocate some of their professionals. This is what we know as job relocation. Whatever your case, if you have a professional move on the horizon, we’re going to try to help you out with this post.
What does relocation mean?
Literally, the English word relocation means “moving to a new location”, but in the professional context it’s used to refer to the increasingly common phenomenon of companies moving employees to another country or another city within their own.
There are many reasons for a relocation, from working on a project that will last for a few months to a permanent move to fill a position at a new office, or even the relocation of the entire company. Depending on the circumstances, the law sets out when a company can require an employee to relocate, but most of the time it’s a mutually agreed move that benefits both parties.
How long does a job relocation last?
Current legislation distinguishes between a transfer, which involves a relocation of more than 12 months within a three-year period, and a temporary move, for which a maximum of 12 months within the same three-year period is set.
In other words, if you’re facing the challenge of moving to a new city for a specific project lasting less than a year, the best option might be to take it easy and find flexible accommodation like Be Casa, where you choose how long you want to stay. At Be Casa you can find studios or 1-bedroom apartments that offer you all the comforts of a hotel without the obligations of renting a flat, starting from 723 euros per month all-inclusive.
If it’s a longer transfer or you’d rather move with your partner or family, you also have fully equipped 2-bedroom apartments available. A real home where you have cleaning service, parking, reception, security… in a nutshell, even if you’re relocated, you’ll enjoy all the good things about being at home but without any worries.
What should a company keep in mind before looking for accommodation for a relocated employee?
Maybe you’re reading this and you’re not the professional who has to move, but someone in charge at the company, and you’re looking for a way to find accommodation before starting the relocation process. In that case, you have three options:
- The first is to use a hotel and pay per night, which will surely be a more expensive option. Plus, your employee will be living in a room where it’ll be really hard to work, organise meetings or host visitors.
- You can also rent an apartment for them and have to sign a contract with the landlord, leave a deposit, and so on. This solution will give them more independence, but they’ll have to take care of cleaning and home maintenance, adding that effort to their job. Another drawback is that many landlords require a minimum rental period that sometimes exceeds two years, which is completely unworkable if your employee is moving for a one-off project.
- The third option is to count on Be Casa. Here, your company’s professionals will have a fully furnished and equipped independent apartment, with all the services of a hotel plus something very important: a coworking space with individual desks or team workspaces, meeting rooms and high-speed wifi. The best part is that you can book accommodation for as long as you need, whether that’s days, weeks or months, with corporate accommodation rates for companies of all kinds and sizes. If you’d like, we can design a tailor-made stay programme together for your employees, with the duration and additional services you want us to provide. They’ll enjoy the comfort of living in touch with people who share their situation and make the most of common areas like the pool, café, gym, terraces…
At Be Casa we know that the present of the professional world is becoming more and more flexible, and that’s why we’ve created a model that adapts to the needs of people and companies, always with the aim of making everyone feel at home, even when work means you need to be relocated.
